Maps in tableau

    In tableau if you want build any maps we have to make use of the geographic field co-ordinates
    called as latitude and longitude .if our data source contains Geo-graphic fields tableau   automatically created latitude and the longitude which gets the measure tab of the data window.

  Types of maps;

       In tableau we are having two types of maps

      1. Symbolmap

      2.Filled map

Symbol map:-

           If you are indicating each and every Geo graphic value with a special symbol in the map then such a kind of map is known as symbol map. to  create a map are the minimum requirement to one geographic field, zero or more dimension and zero or two measures.

 filled map;-

         If you are indicating each and every geographic value with a filled portion in the map then such a kind of map is known as filled map.to  create a map are the minimum requirement to one geographic field,  zero or more dimension and zero or one measures.

 Note:  without measure also we can create maps in tableau.

Map option:

         In tableau the map options are available only for the online maps

                              The different types of map options available are

             1.Map back ground style

             2.Map layers

             3.data layers

Map back ground style;

                     With this option we can change the background color of each and every

                    map in the tableau three different map styles are available.

                               1.Light

                               2.Dark

                               3.normal

 Map layers

             To each and every map in the tableau we can add more layers based in the requirement.

data layers

           Even to map we can add the data if the data is available in the map server.

Custom Geo coding in tableau

 In tableau each and every time it is not possible to create a map with the auto generated
latitude and longitude .some times we need to create the latitude and longitude manually.the process of obtaining the latitude and longitude in the manual way is known as custom Geo coding.With the help of the batch Geo coding process we can obtain the lattitude and longitude manually. If tableau unable to identify the geographic role of custom generated latitude and longitude  we need to define the geographic role manually.To define the geographic role manually right click on the geographic fields select Geo graphic role and assign the required role.
